CBS LA reports that the city of San Bernardino is broke and the city government is forced to reduce expenditures on public safety. That means, among others, 80 police officers cut from the force. Problem is, San Bernardino is experiencing a crime wave with the existing police force – 45 murders to date this year – and residents are rightly concerned what effects reducing the police force will have.
In a public meeting, San Bernardino’s City Attorney, Jim Penman, told people how to deal with this: “lock your doors and load your guns,” he said. He added: “I’m not advocating that people go out, who don’t have any training, and buy firearms. I certainly strongly caution anyone who has children at home not to have a loaded gun in the house.”
Excellent and reasonable advice in right-side-up world, except that now Penman is “under scrutiny” for his words. What that “scrutiny” is, CBS LA does not say, but his bio may provide some clues.
For the geographically challenged, San Bernardino lies 26 miles east of Ontario and 16 miles north of Riverside.
