Interesting article here on the U.S. Navy’s apparent mine warfare deficiencies, in view of (a) U.S. plans to deploy the USS PONCE to the Persian Gulf and (2) Iran’s vocal threats to close the Strait of Hormuz.  However, the Defense Industry Daily is not quite so gloomy: mine warfare is treated as part of the littoral warfare doctrine, and new systems are being/have been developed.
