The Mail Online reports that Nokia’s new “handset” (didn’t they use to call them phones?), to be released in Spain, is called Lumia. Apparently, this means “call girl” in certain Spanish dialects with heavy gypsy influence.  The laughter has already been heard around the globe, for the sun truly never sets on the Spanish-speaking world.

Don’t these people have people to check these things? Don’t they remember fiascos like the Buick Lacrosse (apparently meaning “gay” in Quebecois) in Canada and the unforgettable Chevy Nova (“no va” = won’t go) in Latin America?

What next? A brand-new Tata Pinda in Poland and the Czech Republic? Or in Cuba?

I can’t wait!
