It is bad that, when you should feel outrage, you just shake your head, chuckle and go on with your business of the day?
The AP reports that Emperor Obulus Augustulus decided to celebrate Hanukkah last night. (h/t Gateway Pundit). He lit all eight candles at once and said that Hanukkah is a celebration of “right over might, faith over doubt.”
But I (being only a Jew, of course) seem to remember it the other way round.
Hanukkah is about the triumph of the might of Maccabee arms over a self-righteous sheigetz who thought himself god-like (Epiphanes) and therefore automatically right.
And there was no element of doubt, either. Antiochus IV Epiphanes, being a self-appointed divinity, was absolutely certain that he was right. The Maccabees, being of a tribe chosen to follow the one G-d, also knew they were right. Neither side felt any doubt.
The Jews triumphed, rededicated the Temple, and the miracle of the lights proved them right.
Perhaps Obama twisted and trivialized the story because he himself is afraid of suffering the other self-appointed divinity’s fate. But I don’t think he knows enough real history for that.
The likeliest hypothesis is that “Obama” is just another way to spell “putz,” though with a decidedly anti-Semitic twist.
I’m thinking it’s time for a “truth-about-the-Jews czar” at the White House.
But I can’t see that happening in such a philo-Islamic administration.
