OBAMA TARGETS NETANYAHU AND CHRISTMAS TREES

Trashing Benjamin Netanyahu is always a priority for Obama (and, obviously, his EU pals). If it weren’t, we would be living in a parallel universe where the American President actually represents the views of the American people who overwhelmingly support Israel.  But okay.  That’s Obama politics for you.

But why has the philo-Islamic Obama administration decided suddenly to “promote the image and marketing of Christmas trees?” (h/t The Foundry)

On November 8th, the Agriculture Department announced this very thing.  From now on, the Federal Government will charge fifteen cents on the sale of every fresh Christmas tree, to wit:

…the Secretary of Agriculture will appoint a Christmas Tree Promotion Board.  The purpose of the Board is to run a “program of promotion, research, evaluation, and information designed to strengthen the Christmas tree industry’s position in the marketplace; maintain and expend existing markets for Christmas trees; and to carry out programs, plans, and projects designed to provide maximum benefits to the Christmas tree industry” (7 CFR 1214.46(n)).  And the program of “information” is to include efforts to “enhance the image of Christmas trees and the Christmas tree industry in the United States” (7 CFR 1214.10).

To pay for this program, the Department of Agriculture will charge 15 cents per fresh Christmas tree sold by a seller of more than 500 trees per year (7 CFR 1214.52).  Christmas tree sellers are free to pass the fee along to consumers.

In case anyone is wondering, acting Administrator Shipman said that the 15-cent mandatory Christmas tree fee “is not a tax nor does it yield revenue for the Federal government.”

I suppose one could view it as a jobs creation scheme – for useless government bureaucrats.

As a Jew, I don’t see myself rushing out to buy a Christmas tree this December. I also cannot imagine that too many Moslems, Baha’is, Buddhists or Hindus are itching to do the same thing. So that leaves only – ah-ha! – Christians going out to buy Christmas trees, and therefore only Christians having to pay this tax.
